Being weak in the knees can be a good thing!

I am willing to bet that everyone reading this blog has had the sensation of being weak in the knees at some point in their lives... or at the very least has known someone else who has had this experience.

For one to be weak in the knees may not always be a pleasant experience. It could very well be a precursor to a serious medical incident related to the brain, heart, or at least, a symptom of a physical issue in one’s hips or legs. But it does not have to be!

Now that we have the negative stuff out of the way, let’s explore some of the ways that being “weak in the knees” can be a good thing! Get ready, I bet you can guess where I’m going to go first… “love connections” (or more realistically – “infatuations”).

So, picture this… you see someone across a crowded room, your eyes meet, you smile at each other simultaneously, get weak in the knees (yes, both of you), and the rest is history. Of course, you are both single at the time and you’ve likely seen some version of this on a two-bit rom-com, or in a book or dream or something. At any rate, a totally unlikely scenario.  On the other hand, …

Perhaps you have heard of or imagined an experience when one sees someone years later that they once knew in high school, or in their childhood. One, two, or three or more decades may have passed by when they meet again. Perhaps the meeting was chance, perhaps it was planned, but their feelings for each other ran deep. Now, this scenario seems more realistic to me than the prior one I described yet still can be considered a fantasy.

Now, for me, the above situation sounds plausible and stellar. That being said, I have experienced something personally that is knee weakening in a very different way, and yet I can only imagine something that would not only make me weak in the knees but would probably make me drop to the floor on my knees.

Our worship team sang a song in church this past Sunday entitled “I Speak Jesus” (according to the internet, it was originally sung by Charity Gayle and Steven Musso). Tears began to fill my eyes as I sang, trying not to think too much about the power behind the meaning of the words in the song so it would not overwhelm me. It is not the only song that has ‘filled me up’ with such emotion, it is just the most recent one, which gives it top billing for my blog post. There are many songs that have impacted me in a similar way. How about you??

There is only one thing I can imagine that will be more wonderful than the aforementioned. I can picture a time in the future, near or far, only the one true God could know the time and place… when my life on earth is at a close. I will see God, meet Jesus face to face… all the unknowns will be revealed… nothing will matter other than the awe my imagination cannot even grasp… but when I wonder about this future moment in time, I envision my body holding the sensation of my knees sharply weakening with no other endpoint other than to land on the ground as my arms remain stretched to the sky and my head bowed to the King of the Jews… my King, my savior… Jesus Christ, the one and only son of God, for it is then I will be with my savior in eternity!

I pray that you will one day be there too! John 3:16 says: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (ESV).
